私もポートランドは大好きです。でも私が住むとしたらコーバリスですね。私の夫に言わせますとポートランドが１番なのか？彼は私達の住むこのローズバーグの方がずっと住みやすいと申しております。ただ彼はユージーンの方が、ポートランドと比較した場合ずっと良いと言ってます。OSU(Oregon State University)(コーバリス)、OU(University of Oregon)(ユージーン)は日本で言う早慶戦の様に何時も両校でバスケットボールやら野球やらアメフトで競っています。両市とも町並みは木が多く街の中を川が流れ大変美しいです。ポートランドは雨が多過ぎますが南へ行く程少なくなります、がメッドフォード辺りはドライ過ぎます。なので、私の夫はこの街Roseburgは最高だと申します。盆地ですので風が少なく気候が穏やかです。夏は湿気が無いので日中は暑くてもとても爽やか。軽井沢に居る感じです。ポートランドのように渋滞も無く田舎ですので人も優しく親切です。物価もポートランドより安く街の平均年齢が高いので若い人には物足りないでしょうけど静かで治安が良いので子供を育てるにはとても良い環境です。また、クレーターレイクへも、コーストへもここから１時間半位で行けます。138号線は途中に沢山の滝も有りますので結構ハイキングも楽しめます。
メッドフォードはこれと言ってお勧めは有りませんが西に一寸行った所にJacksonvillという小さな町ですが古くてきれいな街並で私は好きです。

ご家族でオレゴンの自然を堪能したいとのこと、楽しみですね。でもお子様が1歳半となりますとちょっと大変ですかと思いますが。自然を楽しみたいのであればポートランドの同じ宿に居るのは無駄かと思います、オレゴンは広いです。私が1週間の予定でオレゴンを回るなら１日目は空港到着だけになるかと思いますので、ポートランドに2泊してポートランド市内観光プラスポートランド近郊をドライブし、次の日からは先ず、101号線つまりオレゴンコーストを南下することをお勧めします。ついでにカリフォルニアまで南下し、セコイア国立公園まで途中下車しながらドライブします。1泊か２泊。そして、メッドフォードに戻りそこから６２号線を北東に進み、オレゴン唯一の国立公園クレーターレイクへドライブ。９７号線を北上し、途中いろいろ面白い見所がありますのであちこち立ち寄りながらポートランドへ戻るというコースが良いかなと思います。詳しい見所がもし知りたい時にはご連絡下さい。
